Are there plans in the works to offer an Android phone from another company besides HTC so that there are other options besides just the one?

I cannot put into words how free I feel with Hero. There is no comparison to ANY handheld I have ever used or seen. It is quickly becoming my right hand man. Love the apps & have barely scraped the surface.

Hi. I just purchased the new HTC Hero from Cellular South and I notice it hasn’t been tested yet on the Ford sync system. Well let me be the first one to tell you it works! Out of the Motorola’s and the LG 260’s this is by far the best phone to sync with your sync.
:-) I’m impressed. Now I can answer my cell phone by pressing the button on the steering wheel instead of scrambling to find my phone to press the button and answer it.

Any idea if Cellular South is working with HTC to get the 2.0 Android OS on the Hero? Any timelines on when it would be available?

Good phone but when will Pensacola get in on the 3G network? Seems to be all around us.

Cellular South is committed to expanding its industry-leading third generation (3G) mobile broadband network so that as many of its customers as possible can experience the full benefits of the best high-speed wireless data services available on the market today. We know demand for wireless bandwidth is growing, whether it’s for sharing video and photos with friends, watching a movie or television, checking the latest sports scores or listening to music on a phone, netbook or other mobile device on the go. Since 2006, no other carrier has worked faster or deployed more third-generation high-speed data coverage than Cellular South in its primary service area. We are actively working to identify technology requirements and gauge customer interest and potential adoption rates for 3G mobile broadband services in coastal Alabama, Mobile and the Florida panhandle, including Pensacola. You can check back with us periodically at http://www.cellularsouth.com/networks/ for updates.

When the CDMA version of the Nexus One is available in the spring will Cellular South allow us to activate it on their network? It will be sold unlocked directly from Google.

Good one Scott, variety and flexibility are always great. Plus the Nexus One is looking really powerful! Please answer CS Admin, if you will?

I agree with Scott…Nexus One anyone? (sure it lacks the physical keyboard, but with all that real estate, I’m bound to do better at texting on it than the Hero.

Will CS be upgrading the Hero to 2.1 at or near the same time that Sprint will upgrade their customers? Sprint has announced this will happen in early 2nd quarter 2010.

    February 18, 2010 at 1:08 am

OK lets skip the Nexus One and move on to the “HTC Desire”!!!! That would be a major major win for CS

I love my hero… had it almost a month and still am unlocking new features… ill just be glad when the 2.1 update comes out in may or June… the lag and occasional freeze is the only thing that bugs me… had an iphone before and the hero stomps it in the ground..

Android smartphones are coming to Cellular South… meaning more than one… so as much money as there is to be made because of Androids success, why cant you post a loose road map of some kind. As it stands I am looking at other phone companies because they are getting the better Android phones come April time frame. I have no idea when CS will offer a better Android phone than the hero.

    Still waiting….

    http://www.androidspin.com/2010/03/17/htc-desire-appears-in-2-new-colors/

Quoted from HTC, it was said “The HTC Desire is accepted by almost every key carrier in every key country”. In the U.S., AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint are the key carriers. It was also rumored that T-Mobile is training their employees on HTC Desire handsets for an upcoming release. We are awaiting the International CTIA show, with hopes that maybe HTC will announce the Desire for any US carrier.

  26. Jamie

Is there a plan for other android handsets to be added to the Cellular South lineup? The HTC Incredible or Nexus One are both going to be available in CDMA versions.

Would love to see the HTC Incredible come to Cellsouth. Also the 4g EVO with Sprint, this would be a great phone to add.

The best move CS can make is the HTC Desire…. you want people to switch to CS? Get them a phone with a 1 GHz processor like the HTC Desire. Now thats a true game-changer for CS. Please don’t get anything less… it just will not do when the phone gets loaded down!

Oh and pic messaging, cant live with out it… emailing a pic is not the same! Get it! Got it! GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

coming soon is to very vague, when is the expected release date of the new phones? when will the models be released? will ANY have a LED flash? i see verison has several new Droid phones. will you have the same or similar lineup?

  32. Leslie

    May 9, 2010 at 11:40 pm

whe, what, who? what ones are comeing? are they better than hero? or similar.I’m waiting to update my phone.

    May 11, 2010 at 2:47 pm

I just have my fingers crossed that the new android phones will not have the Sense UI, and run straight Google like the Droid by Motorola the Nexus One. Unless HTC has fixed the lag issue that seems to be bugging the Hero.

    May 12, 2010 at 1:34 pm

So, from the Cellular South Facebook riddle, it looks like we’re getting the Moto Milestone (Moto Droid on Verizon). That’s a nice Android phone, but not really a “game-changer”, eh? There MUST be something else coming soon as well…

  35. Scott

    May 17, 2010 at 5:21 am

I wish they would give a little more info on what other Android phones and time frames. Coming soon is too vague. They could be talking about the end of the year and we are thinking this summer. I am hoping for the HTC desire very soon.

    May 22, 2010 at 1:44 am

Right now I’m looking at the verizon incredible and EVO by sprint which are both great phones. The HTC Desire would be a nice addition to CS since it compares closely to the evo and incredible in terms of specs and capability. The Desire would be more of a game changer than the Motorola Milestone in my opinion. I hope they release that new Android lineup soon. There are a lot of new potential customers, like myself, that cellular south can gain by releasing what phones and when they’re planning to release them.

    May 27, 2010 at 2:10 pm

I agree with Scott here. Stop teasing and being so vague. I bought the Hero about two months ago, but had I known some newer phones were coming, I would have held off. I’m getting serious Droid envy over models like the Incredible, EVO, and Nexus One.

I noticed sprint is offering the android 2.1 update for there Hero . Do you guys have a date for the Cell South 2.1 update ? I really want this new operating system . I have heard from sprint users that the 2.1 update runs smooth on the Hero .Come on CS lets get that update . I,m jealous of the Sprint Hero users .

I have the hero…love it…but I wish that you get the HTC Evo and rename it…that’s a tight android phone and you will sell MILLIONS

    June 25, 2010 at 3:26 pm

The HTC EVO…. Cellular South already has the hero which is just the black version of the desire so we really don’t need that and besides the EVO will be like a iPhone but this is way better so get the EVO

The HTC Hero is not like the HTC Desire. The HTC Desire comes with a fast 1GHz Snapdragon processor and many other features.
